New Visions Education

This is a program of career exploration for seniors who are interested in the field of education, K-12. Students do rotations in different school districts working with school-site mentor educators. The field experience rotations allow students to find out if education is the career for them as they have in-depth experiences in Kindergarten, early elementary, upper elementary, middle school, high school, special education, English language learning, administration, counseling, and special services. New Visions Education takes place at Mahopac Falls Elementary School from 8 a.m. to 12 noon every day. Students develop their own identities as educational professionals, and study issues in education while they gain knowledge from hands-on experiences. The program also includes instruction in child psychology and development, meeting the needs of diverse learners, identifying and implementing exemplary teaching practices, creating curriculum, and many opportunities to practice teaching. Students receive twelve college credits: three in SUNY Composition and Literature, three in SUNY Introduction to Schools and Teaching, three in Child Psychology from Mercy College and three in Public Affairs from Syracuse University.
